alzina forest school
Welcome to Alzina Forest School. We are a new and exciting Scandinavian inspired nature pre-school for children ages 2-6 years old, set within 42 hecters of the great outdoors! It’s our aim to provide a daily outdoor adventure for our little people in which they explore, play, discover, learn and connect to each other and the world around us.

We offer a bilingual program centred around personal development and emotional intelligence through self-directed play, creativity, multisensory experiences and deep meaningful connection to nature.

Our Forest School guides act to accompany the children in a non intrusive, respectful and receptive way supporting them using 4 key tools: Emotional validation, continuous observation, flexible planning and simplicity of resources.
Alzina Base Camp
Alzina Forest School's has all we need to learn and develop in traditional forest school style.
Base camp has shelters and the basic facilities required to protect from adverse weather yet ensure we learn from the elements.
It is from base camp that we explore the mountain on daily adventures. It is our home, developed and nutrured by the children of the Forest School.

Forest & Farm
Children of the Forest School have a range of zones to explore around the site along with the farm animals of El Marti. Children have the opportunity to observe and interact with the animals and take part in projects that help care for them.
the FOREST SCHOOL RULES
At Alzina Forest School we have few rules and they can all be summed up in one word: RESPECT.
+ RESPECT EVERYONE
+ RESPECT YOURSELF
+ RESPECT NATURE
+ RESPECT MATERIALS

STEAM PRINCIPLES
Creative proposals
Production of artefacts, experimentation with the colors of nature, creations with natural elements that surround us typical of the forest (leaves, trunks, flowers, rocks...) typical of the garden (pumpkins, fruit/vegetable dyes...) and of the animal world (egg shells, wool, leather...). We encourage the child's creativity and transformative capacity through a flexible and open artistic proposal.

STEAM proposals (Science, Technology, Engieering, Art and Maths)
Proposals designed to acquire specific skills such as: the safe use of field and forest tools adapted to children's small hands; or lighting a fire in a conscious and accompanied way, or the ability to make knots to fix structures or develop a basic system of pulleys among others.
These skills will be deployed from specific proposals (construction of cabins and shelters, fences for farm animals, small stairs, creative pieces) as part of the eating ritual (cooking on the campfire) or as a proposed challenge to be solved by the educators.
These proposals are aimed at mobilizing rational, logical and mathematical thinking, teamwork, and the ability to be responsible, assume limitations, manage risks and ecological awareness of the impact of our actions on the environment.
Proposals for observation and listening and raising awareness.
We accompany in the awareness of the environment that surrounds us. We favor the observation of nature and the appreciation of its richness and diversity: leaf shapes, types of mosses, plants, bark, trees, rocks, clouds. We favor moments of listening and distinguishing sounds, textures, colors. These aspects will sometimes be worked on spontaneously (as a result of the dynamics of the group at that time) or in a programmed way depending on the age of the child: herbal creation, insect houses, searching for fossils or classifying rocks others.

“No one will protect what they don’t care about;
and no one will care about what they have never experienced.”

The WeatherThe Forest School methodology follows the Norwegian saying that says "there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing". The Forest school methodology is developed outdoors throughout the year. We adapt to the weather at the same time as adapting the sessions and the tempos of the activities and we make use of shelters and sheds when necessary. We are conveniently equipped to enjoy the Forest School experience.
